Why Transplants Love Georgia

Why Transplants Love Georgia

Georgia: made famous by “Georgia on My Mind” and home to warm weather, every peach-named street imaginable and gorgeous weather. With the Appalachians cutting through the state, the Atlanta metropolis booming and year round festivals, it’s no wonder hordes of people are making the move. Still not convinced that Georgia should be your new home? These fun facts might make you change your mind!

Living Here

There is a misperception that, outside of Atlanta, Georgia is just mountains, farmland and nothingness. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Georgia offers beaches, awesome city squares and much more. One of Georgia’s central cities, McDonough, has a high livability score (78) and offers almost every amenity anyone could hope for.

Despite having a slightly higher cost of living than the rest of Georgia, McDonough is still one percent cheaper than the rest of the country. Not a bad price to pay for good school, incredible weather and everything within reach.

Despite having a slightly higher cost of living than the rest of Georgia, McDonough is still friendlier on the wallet than cities of comparable size in the rest of the country. It has a particularly great payoff because of its award-winning schools, where test scores, on average, are 31 percent higher than the national average. And don’t forget about this town’s proximity to some of Georgia’s most sought-after sights. From home, you would have a short drive to the beach, the mountains or Atlanta’s city center!

There’s Only One Season

If you’re looking for warmer weather, Georgia has that in spades! But it’s not all fainting spells and heat strokes; averaging in the 70s and almost always sunny. Summers can be a little daunting at first, but our homes are fully equipped to handle the rising temperatures.

Another great thing about Georgia weather is that we’re the least disaster-prone state in all of the south. Most Georgia counties experienced fewer than 10 disasters in the past five decades. To put that in perspective: Florida and New Orleans have experienced up to 30 disasters in the same period.

Number One

Just two years ago, Georgia was named the number one moving destination in the country. Why? Let’s find out!

  • Cost of living: Georgia is full of homes, planned communities and high rises, which allows residents and transplants alike to choose exactly which type of housing is right for them. With a lower cost of living than the national average for both renting and owning, Georgia is the perfect place to settle down without going broke

Another fun fact about the cost of living in Georgia is the utility costs. Because of high electricity generation rates, utility bills are typically much lower than the rest of the country. In fact, Georgians paid 11 percent less than residents across the U.S.

  • Conventions and festivals: Atlanta was named one of the nerdiest cities in the U.S. We have festivals almost every weekend during the summer, but what makes Atlanta a number one for comic book fans is the conventions. Atlanta is home to a few conventions–Dragon Con being the biggest. But more than that, Atlanta has the most amount of bookstores, comic book stores, computer stores and is tied for the most conventions. With a Marvel studio in north Georgia, we’re proud to celebrate our comic book heroes during conventions

Georgia really is a great place to call home, which is why we decided to start building homes here. Our Providence Harbour community homes in McDonough are spacious, beautifully designed homes with access to all the above amenities. If you’re looking to move to Georgia, make sure you check these out!
